Overview

The PSI-BT is designed to measure beginning teacher perceptions of success related to the following factors:  mentor support, colleague support, administrative support, classroom management, student success, instructional resources, assignment/workload, parental contact, satisfaction, and commitment. Data from the inventory are prioritized and analyzed.  Results can be used by school system leaders to foster a dialogue about evidence-based strategies for supporting and retaining beginning teachers. Further, data can support benchmarking for a school system, strategic planning, state-wide accountability initiatives, and benchmarking for re-accreditation of teacher education programs.

Customized Data Collection

The PSI-BT instrument can be customized to meet the individual needs of your educational system.  Options include the development of specific demographic items as well as other customized questions related directly to beginning teacher induction and support. For more specific information about the customization available, please click here.

Personalized Reporting

SUCCEED offers a personalized report to school systems selecting the full service adminstration option (click on the links to see sample versions of each component).

With the full service option, SUCCEED will provide a personalized full report that provides an introduction to the report, specific school system data for each factor including graphs and text, implications for the school system that include the postive aspects of the school system, suggestions for action steps, as well as means and standard deviations for each item. In addition, items and factors will be broken out by two demographic items of the school system's choice.

The school system will also receive an executive report that includes a snapshot of the main findings, recommendations, as well as a graph depicting all factor means for the school system. An additional component of the executive report for 2007-2008 is the Beginning Teacher Confidence Index. The Beginning Teacher Confidence Index is a number that provides an overall index of beginning teacher's perception of success. This number is calculated based on the psychometrics of the PSI-BT and the school system's mean scores. This number provides a quick glance at the overall attitudes of the beginning teachers, and the full report provides specific information about each of the factors making up the Beginning Teacher Confidence Index.

School systems that opt to take the PSI-BT on an annual or semi-annual basis will receive comparison data on the administrations.

Benchmarking

SUCCEED maintains a database of composite averages for all of our clients.  Data from follow-up inventories can be compared with baseline inventory data.   As well, results can be compared to norm-based data.

Administration

There are six different options for administering the PSI-BT that are differentiated by the size of institution and the type of service desired. The process of administering the PSI-BT is described below. To see the six different administration options, please click here.
