Resolution 22: Notification by Instructor of Cancellation of a class

EXPERIMENTAL COURSES LISTING WEBSITE ANNOUNCEMENT
Effective August 14, 2006, the campus community will be able to search for available Experimental/Special Topics Courses through http://www.ncsu.edu/majors-careers/experi_courses/experi_courses.php. The link to the Site will be found through R&R's Courses Page, Advising Central's Academic Events Page, and within the Majors & Careers What Can I Do With A Major Pages. This Website has been created in response to frequent requests by students and advisers for a means to locate special topics course detail not currently available in Pack Tracks.

If you find that your experimental course is not listed, check with the Scheduling Officer in your department. Scheduling Officers will be adding the course details to the Site after a course has been approved through R&R. It will be most helpful to Scheduling Officers if you submit your experimental course request with the details required for the Site--a detailed description; contact name, campus address, phone, email; course prerequisites; how does this course count towards students' degree audits; and what are the restrictions--open to which majors. Should you have any questions/concerns about how the Site functions, please contact roxanna_mcgraw@ncsu.edu .

ATTENDANCE REGULATIONS
Instructors in 100- and 200-level courses must prescribe to the university's attendence regulation. Please be reminded that the attendance regulations provide the expectation that students be granted reasonable excused absences and attendant opportunities to make up missed work. In doing so, we should be sensitive to the variety of legitimate conflicts for which allowing excused absences are respectful of students' situations.  These types of situations are described in item 1 of the attendance regulation.
See Academic Regulation at: http://www.ncsu.edu/policies/academic_affairs/pols_regs/REG205.00.4.php.

NO MAJOR TESTS IN FINAL WEEK OF CLASSES
Lab tests and semester project reports and presentations are permissible during the final week of classes. Papers and homework may have a due date during the final week of classes only if scheduled in the syllabus. However, in order for students to prepare for final examinations, faculty members may not assign other tests, quizzes or additional papers during the final week of classes. Assignments should not have a due date during the final exam period unless the assignment constitutes a part of the final exam. Exceptions to this policy must be approved in advance by the department head and the dean of the college involved. Students should contact the appropriate instructor or department head if they believe an assignment is not in compliance with this regulation.
See Academic Regulation at: http://www.ncsu.edu/policies/academic_affairs/courses_undergrad/REG02.20.14.php.

FINAL EXAMINATION POLICY
Except for research, seminar, tutorial, or studio courses, final examinations should be given in all courses. Exemptions may be granted by the faculty member responsible for a particular course or section provided prior approval is obtained from the department head. Exemptions may be applied to whole courses, sections, groups of students, or individual students, provided that these exemptions are applied equitably to the students in a particular course or section and comparable procedures are applied to all sections of multiple-sectioned courses.
