Drought Management and Water Conservation

The Water Resources Research Institute of The University of North Carolina (WRRI) requests abstracts for oral and poster presentations and organized sessions at its 11th Annual Conference: Drought Management and Water Conservation, to be held October 8-9, 2008, at the McKimmon Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.

We are soliciting for oral and poster presentations and organized sessions related to the following topics:

  • Water conservation
  • Drought management
  • Water availability, use and climate interaction
  • Water reuse
  • Drinking water management
  • Wastewater management
  • Socio-economic and institutional factors
  • Erosion and sedimentation control
  • Stormwater management
  • Water quality and ecosystem function
  • Groundwater issues
  • Other water-related topics

Plenary sessions will focus on drought management and water conservation. Many of the technical session themes will be based on abstracts received for oral presentations.

Oral and Poster Presentations:

Please submit abstracts of 500 words or less via the abstract submission form by 5:00 pm, Monday, August 25th. All selected abstracts will be posted to the WRRI web site in pdf format. Selection of oral presentations will be made on September 3, 2008 by WRRI and the Annual Conference Organizing Committee. Poster presentations will be accepted until 5:00 pm, Friday, September 19, 2008. All oral and poster presenters will be notified by email of the status of their abstract submission. Accepted abstracts will be posted on the WRRI web site: Week of September 7, 2008. If changes or updates are needed to accepted abstracts, WRRI will make the changes and re-post the abstract to the web.

Undergraduate and graduate students are encouraged to submit abstracts for poster presentations. The North Carolina Water Resources Association (http://www.ncsu.edu/ncwra/) is sponsoring a student poster contest during the conference. Outstanding student posters will be recognized at the NCWRA Symposium Luncheon on October 9th. First place will receive $300, 2nd place will receive $200 and 3rd place will receive $100.

Organized Technical Sessions:

We are accepting abstracts for organized technical sessions or panel discussions. The sessions are 90 minutes in length. If you are interested please submit the following information by 5:00 pm, Monday, August 25, 2008. WRRI and the Annual Conference Organizing Committee will make final decisions on proposed sessions on September 3, 2008.

Note: All undergraduate and graduate students doing an oral or poster presentation receive free registration. All other speakers and poster presenters will pay the registration fee. The early registration deadline is Friday, September 19, 2008.
