I came to NCSU from McGill University in Montreal in 2002. It is my belief that faculty has the obligation to give back to the University and during the past twenty seven years as a faculty member, I have served on numerous committees related to  promotion & tenure, curriculum, grievance, Research & Scholarship, mentoring  etc. During my tenure at NCSU I have served on the University Research Committee, the Resources & Environment committee and currently I am  serving with the Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate and its Academic Policy committee. By nature, I feel totally committed to promoting faculty governance, academic freedom and equity. Working with the senate and its committees fulfills these needs in me. On an academic front, I am an organic chemist with the Department of Forest Biomaterials with cross-appointments  with our department of Chemistry and that of the University of Helsinki in Finland. My group works towards developing novel chemistries of utilizing the carbon sequestered in our trees toward the production of materials, chemicals and energy.
