Office of International Services

Orientation Volunteers

Whether you have gone through an OIS Orientation in the past or just have an interest in helping new international students at NC State, OIS is always looking for energetic, flexible and friendly volunteers to help with our next student orientation!  Each year, OIS coordinates New International Student Orientation for approximately 1100 new international students.  We are in need of orientation volunteers to assist our office in four capacities: Small Group Leader, Check-in Volunteer and Orientation Team.

Fall 2012 New International Student Orientation, Orientation Team and Small Group Leaders

1) Small Group Leader: If you were a new student in a foreign country, would you like someone to answer your email questions before arrival and help you during your first few days at the university?  Of course you would!  Small Group Leaders play an integral role in answering basic and questions from new international students about the university/Raleigh, and also in assisting OIS during New International Student Orientation.  If you would be interested in assisting your own small group, click here.

2) Check-in Volunteer: During the two weeks before classes begin, volunteers are needed to assist with check-in for new international students.  Check in volunteer responsibilities include making passport photocopies, reviewing the contents in the Welcome Packet (which includes important university information such registration, ID cards, email, health care services, etc.), and answering new student questions. Volunteers sign-up for either a morning or afternoon shift and must attend a one hour training meeting. If interested, please contact the Programs Coordinator, Lauren Ball, at 515-2961.

3) Orientation Team: This is a distinct group of volunteers who are interviewed and selected by OIS to serve in both an advisory and hands-on capacity to plan New International Student Orientation in the spring and the fall. Read the job description - Volunteer Job Description.  Anyone interested should submit an application to the Programs Coordinator. Benefits include gaining professional skills in event planning and working closely with a diverse group of students who quickly become friends!
